ST. GEORGE — The Fan Sports Network has a foothold in St. George, and it is going to be taking some big steps behind a longtime local sports personality.

Devin Dixon has made the transition to Canyon Media and is the host of The Drive, a daily sports talk radio show broadcasting on 99.5 FM and 95.3 FM in St. George and at 93.1 FM and 1400 AM in Cedar City.

The Drive airs 7-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.

“It’s fun to be part of a rebranding,” Dixon told St. George News. “The Fan is a name that a lot of sports stations have used across the country, but this is the first time that we’ve had it.”

The Fan Sports Network is also the home of From the Bleachers, the daily evening sports talk show with Kaden Foremaster and the Voice You Know, Mark Musgrave, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“With local programming, we’re just all about the fans and providing local content,” Dixon said. “And so we thought it was a great name for Southern Utah for our sports station.”

He went on to add that local programming will be “our bread and butter. We’re going to continue to give more local content than anybody else out there.”

The Fan Sports Network will feature coverage of all the schools and teams in Region 10 athletics. Student-athletes and coaches will be interviewed on the radio and in St. George News.

Coaches from Utah Tech, including head football coach Paul Peterson and men’s basketball coach Jon Judkins, will be frequent guests on the radio shows.

Live streaming of both high school and college games is found at The Fan Sports Network website.

Canyon Media, which also owns St. George News, shares Dixon’s vision of providing local sports coverage.

“We set out to provide the best coverage of our local athletes, coaches, high schools and universities and felt like the best way to do that was to create our very own brand,” Canyon Media General Manager Ben Lindquist said. “National programming changes so often that we wanted the flexibility to go out and get the very best in local sports shows and also national sports powerhouses.”

Dixon was the natural choice to be the face of Canyon Media’s local sports coverage.

“There is no bigger fan of local sports than Devin Dixon,” Lindquist said. “He has mentored, covered, highlighted and gone the extra mile for our local athletes, schools, universities and coaches for nearly 20 years.”

He went on to say that Canyon Media always wants to create an environment where the best want to come work and join the team.

“I believe Devin saw a culture, resources and team that wanted to match his energy and desire to be the best today and tomorrow,” Lindquist said.

Lindquist said that The Fan Sports Network reflects a leap forward for Canyon Media.

“We were quickly getting to the top and adding Devin has taken us to the next level,” he said. “We take being the leader very seriously and while others go away from local and community-based content, we are doubling down in a big way.”
