Body found on Anasazi Road; Washington County detectives investigate ‘suspicious death’

ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death of a male who was found near Anasazi Road off Old Highway 91 in Washington County early Monday morning.

The discovery was made when the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible burglary at a construction yard south of Ivins off Anasazi Road shortly before 7 a.m., according to a statement released by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon.

While en route, deputies were advised that apparent stolen property was found near the construction site, and they arrived to find a 36-year-old man lying dead on the ground near the construction yard. The investigation was opened when authorities determined the death to be suspicious. The scene was secured while investigators responded to the area.

The statement also said the man’s remains will be sent to the medical examiner for identification and autopsy to determine the cause of death.

According to information released Monday, the criminal investigation is ongoing and detectives are following up on leads “as we get them.” The incident poses no danger to the public, the report added.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is also seeking information about the case and has asked that anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious on or near Anasazi Road over the weekend to contact authorities at 435-634-5730.

The criminal investigation is ongoing so no further details will be released at this time. The identity of the man has yet to be released.
