ST. GEORGE — The Snow Canyon Warriors are at the top of the standings with one week left in the Region 10 football season.
Snow Canyon won its fourth consecutive contest by blowout Friday night at Pine View to finish 5-1 in the region and 6-3 overall. They’ll await the results from Wednesday’s final games to see where they finish officially.
Meanwhile, Dixie shocked the No. 1 team in 4A with a gutty home win over Crimson Cliffs, while Desert Hills routed Cedar to keep pace in the conference race.
And in non-region play, Hurricane picked up a home win over Cottonwood.
Following are recaps of Friday’s Region 10 action as well as from other Southwestern Utah teams.
Dixie 24, Crimson Cliffs 19
Dixie shocked the No. 1 team in 4A by taking a 14-13 lead at halftime, scoring 10 points in the third quarter and then securing the win with a game-clinching fumble recovery.
“I’m happy for the Dixie fans and our players tonight,” Flyers coach Blaine Monkres told St. George News after the win. “It’s a tough game, the kids had back-to-back tough losses the past two weeks. But here on senior night they stepped up to the occasion and played good enough to get the win.”
Crimson took the opening kickoff, marched down the field and scored on a 2-yard TD burst by McCord Christiansen.
Dixie wasted no time and responded with Jalen Schultz’s 58-yard touchdown bomb to Blake Watson and the home team lead 7-6.
“He seems to be getting better every week,” Monkres said about his senior quarterback. “He was as sharp as everybody else was.”
The Mustangs jumped back ahead 13-7 after Steele Barben connected with Luke Childs for an 8-yard TD pass.
But the Flyers took a 14-13 lead into the intermission after Jaxon Barben dove for a fantastic grab of Schultz’s 24-yard touchdown toss.
A dramatic momentum swing came in the third quarter when Crimson Cliffs muffed a punt and Dixie got set up deep in Mustangs territory.
A punishing gallop from Seth Takau then set Schultz up for a 2-yard scoring run and Dixie led 21-13.
Jonathan Bibiano’s 20-yard field goal capped Dixie’s scoring, but Crimson made it close on a nifty reverse flea flicker that ended in a 25-yard touchdown pass to Boston Adamson with a little over four minutes remaining. The 2-point conversion run was stopped.
Crimson had one last chance but fumbled on its final possession. Senior Treven Alldredge recovered the fumble for Dixie.
Dixie improved to 3-2 in Region 10 and is 6-3 overall. The Flyers play at Hurricane on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the last game of the region slate for both teams.
Meanwhile Crimson slipped to 4-1 Region 10, 7-2 overall and hosts Cedar at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Washington Fields.

Mortensen also hauled in a 16-yard TD pass, and teammate Javiyen Cummings had scoring catches of 8 and 10 yards, and Lincoln Holmes found paydirt with a pair of 27-yard touchdowns.
