ST. GEORGE — The first week in October is Public Power Week, a time for customers and stakeholders nationwide to learn how they can better engage with their community-owned utility.
In a press release issued last week, the city of St. George’s Energy Services Department invited the public to learn more about their operation in the free, family-friendly Public Power Week Celebration, noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dixie Sunbowl.
“We love these opportunities to demonstrate the types of things our crews do to provide reliable, safe, low-cost power to our community,” Energy Services Director Laurie Mangum said in a news release. “It also shows everyone that our employees are part of their community.”
There is a variety of fun activities available during the celebration, including a utility pole climbing competition and hot-line trailer demonstration. Information on careers in power and the city’s net metering program, tips on conservation and a glimpse of what our engineers are planning for in the future will be available.
Free hot dogs and refreshments will be served for as long as supplies last.
“Kids have a special role in reminding their families how they can save energy,” Mangum added in the news release. “While we are sharing these tips during Public Power Week, we hope our community will keep an eye on energy efficiency all year round.”
