ST. GEORGE — A 15-year-old boy died Thursday evening after getting hit by a truck in Hurricane.

At 7:37 p.m. Thursday, Hurricane Police officers were dispatched to an incident involving a vehicle-versus-bicycle collision at the intersection of 400 South and 400 West. Police arrived on scene less than two minutes later at 7:39 p.m., according to a press release issued by the Hurricane Police Department.

Leading up to the incident, a 56-year-old Santa Clara man driving a green 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was headed east on 400 South. At the same time, a 15-year-old boy from LaVerkin riding an electric bicycle was headed north on 400 West, which is when the boy was hit by the truck and became caught underneath with his bike, resulting in serious injuries, police said.

A registered nurse was on scene when officers arrived and life-saving measures on the boy were started immediately, according to the report. Life-saving measures continued as paramedics arrived to assist.

“Unfortunately the 15-year-old was not able to be resuscitated and succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” the news release states.

In addition to the Hurricane Police Department, Hurricane Valley Fire District responded to the scene.

This investigation is still ongoing.

“Our thoughts and sincerest condolences go out to the family of this young man,” police say in the release. “We also wish to thank the Hurricane Valley Fire District for their assistance.”
