The crash reportedly happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. just west of the intersection of SR-56 and Cross Hollow Road. It involved three vehicles, all of which were heading eastbound: a white Kia compact SUV, a black Jeep SUV and a semitractor-trailer.

Cedar City Police Cpl. Aaron Condie said the Kia driver rear-ended the Jeep, causing the Jeep to impact the right front portion of the semi traveling alongside.

The Kia driver was transported to Cedar City Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be minor. Witnesses at the scene said it appeared as though the woman had struck the steering wheel with her forehead.

No other injuries were reported. Both the Kia and the Jeep sustained heavy damage and needed to be towed. Meanwhile, the semitruck had minor damage on and around the step leading up to the passenger side door, although the vehicle appeared to be still drivable.

Condie said at the scene that police had not yet made any determination regarding the cause of the crash or who might have been at fault. However, the incident is under investigation and a citation may be issued, he added.

Eastbound traffic in the area was impacted by a right lane closure for almost one hour while the scene was investigated and cleared.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
