ST. GEORGE — There’s no time like the present for a flu vaccine.

The public has a chance to do so during the annual Flu Shootout for Washington County on Tuesday at the Red Cliffs Mall.

According to a press release from Southwest Utah Public Health Department, the Centers for Disease Control recommends a yearly influenza vaccination for everyone over 6 months of age in order to reduce the risk of influenza infection and serious complications.

“While you can get a flu shot at our offices or from other providers such as pharmacies and healthcare providers, coming to our shootout helps us practice our emergency pandemic response plans,” the news release said.

The drive-thru portion of the flu shot event runs 8 a.m.-noon for people ages 18 and older. The walk-in clinic will run 2-5 p.m. for people of all ages.

A Flu Shootout in Springdale also will be staged Oct. 3, at Zion Clinic, 120 Lion Blvd., from 9 a.m.-noon, with drive-thru and walk-in options.

Flu shots are no charge with proof of the following insurances: Aetna, Cigna, DMBA, Educators Mutual, Healthy Premier, Medicare, Utah Medicaid, CHIP, MotivHealth, PEHP, Selecthealth, Tall Tree Administrators and United Health. Otherwise, shots are $25 (or $65 for high-dose version for people ages 65 and older).

Those attending are asked to bring their insurance cards and to wear a short-sleeved shirt.

Click here to print the required consent forms, which should be filled out before attending the shot clinic, the news release said
