ST. GEORGE — Last Saturday in Enterprise, 50 volunteers from the community, faith groups and local businesses helped put on the Enterprise Outdoor Games, an annual event for people with special needs held on National Service Day.

The city of Enterprise helped sponsor the event by providing its community building at the community park, a sound system and a fire truck.

The event included 90 people with disabilities and their families.

Festivities included a hay ride, a petting zoo, side-by-side rides, karaoke music, dinner with Enterprise sweet corn and many games tailored to the group.

“I believe this event is life-changing,” participant Trisha Dacus said. “The special needs families are able to enjoy a day together that is accommodating to all family members. The volunteers, of all ages, are able to meet new people they wouldn’t have likely been able to meet otherwise.”

Dacus added that being the mother of a child with special needs, this program has helped her family enjoy a fun-filled day without anyone feeling excluded because everyone can be involved in all of the activities.

Brenna Thomas, who also participated in the event, said this event also shows youth the importance of serving.

“I loved being a part of the event as a volunteer and having my kids be involved in serving the special needs community,” she said. “It is so important to learn at a young age to serve and to serve with love.”

Another participant, Nichelle Richins said it was an honor to be a part of the event.

“The event was a great success and being a part of it is such an honor,” she said. “It’s an amazing way to serve a very sweet part of our community. These individuals and their families deserve all the good that life can bring. It was a fun and heart-warming afternoon.”
