Eric S. Bringhurst

Feb. 28, 1962-Aug. 30, 2022

Eric Samuel Bringhurst, MD, passed away from organ failure on Aug. 30, 2022. He was the oldest child of Dr. Deon Stout Bringhurst and Lila Parent Bringhurst and will be greatly missed by his five siblings and 21 nieces and nephews.

Born in Fremont, California, on Feb. 28, 1962, Eric graduated from Harker Academy, Athenian, UC-Davis, and finally the University of Virginia Medical School in 1990. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seville, Spain. Working as an anesthesiologist, he provided excellent care for his patients at the SF VA and the San Francisco Eye Center.

A devoted son, Eric cared for his ailing father for four years until his death in 2010 and then was his mother’s constant companion in charitable and local history ventures until her death in 2016.

Eric had a keen intellect and an amazing recall of detail coupled with a thirst for adventurous quests. He collected a small but devoted group of eclectic friends. Most of all, he loved to camp in the redwoods and get as many family members as he could to come play games and sit around the fire, stoking it with his handmade bellows and telling colorful tales. It was a sad day when the family cabin in Little Basin burned down in the lightning strikes of 2020.

Eric always made an effort to be a good uncle and brother. He also found ways to serve those who were struggling emotionally or financially. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 2021, he bravely carried on with optimism, kindness and long suffering.

He is survived by his brother Eron Bringhurst of Pleasanton, California; and sisters Margo Layton of Eagle, Idaho; Amy Crane of St. Anthony, Idaho; Glinel Bowen of Manteca, California, and Alaina Stewart of Danville, California.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 63 North Toquerville Blvd., Toquerville, Utah

Interment will be in the Toquerville Cemetery, 119 N Toquer Blvd., Toquerville, Utah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Eric’s online guest book.
