MESQUITE, Nev. — A Scenic, Arizona, man was arrested and charged after authorities responded earlier in the month to a report of a vehicle that was stolen during a burglary at a pest control business around 9:30 a.m., the day before.

Anthony James Jessop, 47,  was arrested and charged with one count of felony burglary of a business and one count of felony grand theft of a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from an Aug. 15 response by Mesquite Police officers to a report of a stolen vehicle. While at the crime scene — a pest control business — officers determined the suspect entered the property through a window while the business was closed, according to a news release from the Mesquite Police Department.

Officers collected several pieces of evidence that would aid in the identification of the suspect to include a shoeprint and video surveillance. Officers began a search for the suspect and the stolen vehicle. Later that day, the abandoned stolen vehicle was located in Arizona and was returned to the business, the news release said.

The following evening, a detective located Jessop walking in a casino parking lot. The detective detained him to investigate further and noticed he was wearing the same clothing and shoes he wore during the alleged burglary and vehicle theft. The detective then took the male into custody.

“The criminals who decide to victimize our residents and businesses need to rethink those poor decisions,” Police Chief MaQuade Chesley said in the news release. “Our officers’ dedication to this city is unmatched and will do everything in their power to find and arrest these criminals.

“Officers and detectives working together to share information and evidence led to the quick arrest and closure of this case, and we are all proud of their hard work.”

Due to the felony charges, Jessop was transported to Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.
