ST. GEORGE — Driving impaired is suspected to be the cause of a crash that occurred Monday evening on Dixie Drive in front of Star Nursery.
St. George Police and St. George Fire units were sent to the Star Nursery Rock Center at 1335 S. Dixie Drive just before 7:30 p.m. on the report of a vehicle crash. When they arrived at the scene, responders found a large Dodge pickup that had jumped the curb and gone down an embankment.
The pickup likely would have crashed down into Star Nursery’s parking lot if not for the larger work truck parked alongside the embankment where the pickup became wedged in place.
The pickup’s driver was the sole occupant of the truck and endured minor injuries, St. George Police Sgt. Tyler Beddoes said, adding the driver was lucky in that regard.
From what the responding officers gathered, Beddoes said the pickup had been southbound on Dixie Drive when it veered into the northbound lanes and then off the road.
The driver was suspected of driving under the influence and arrested under that charge, Beddoes added.
A section of the western (outer) lane by Star Nursery was blocked by police cruisers while the scene was investigated and tow operators removed the battered pickup truck.
Police said no one else was involved in the crash.
This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
