Tornado touches down around Littlefield, Arizona headed south; tornado warning issued

ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for northern Mohave County in Arizona, Southeastern Lincoln County in south central Nevada and Northeastern Clark County in southern Nevada.

A tornado touched down 8 miles northwest of Mesquite, Nevada, at about 4:45 p.m. PDT Sunday with damaging winds and quarter sized hail.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

Travelers on Interstate 15 between Nevada mile markers 104 and 120 are urged to take immediate precautions.

The National Weather Service said, “A tornado is on the ground. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
