Cameron Lee Carr was booked into Iron County Jail shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Earlier that day, Enoch City Police had received a call regarding a juvenile who had reportedly gone missing from her grandmother’s house in Enoch sometime during the preceding night.

According to the probable cause statement filed in support of Carr’s arrest, police identified Carr as a suspect in the girl’s disappearance, after finding several conversations sent via Instagram that discussed sexual activity with the girl.

The girl’s mother had provided police with her daughter’s phone and access to her Instagram account, the affidavit states.

Later on Saturday, St. George Police reportedly located both Carr and the girl inside Carr’s bedroom at the residence where he lives in St. George.

According to the affidavit, when Carr answered the bedroom door, police asked him who else was in the room.

Carr then told officers his girlfriend was in there, which he immediately followed with, “She is 18,” according to the statement.

Carr also reportedly told police he had been dating the girl for approximately one month but could not remember her name, the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit.

Carr also reportedly claimed he did not know the girl was under the age of 18.

“However, the grandmother states she told Cameron to stop messaging the juvenile, as she was 14 before her disappearance,” the probable cause statement notes.

As of Tuesday, Carr was being held without bail in Iron County Jail on suspicion of enticing a minor using the internet or text message, a second degree felony. He made his initial court appearance via videoconference Tuesday afternoon before 5th District Judge Ann Marie McIff Allen, who appointed public defender Jeffery Slack to represent Carr and set a detention review hearing for next week.

Additional charges may be forthcoming, according to Enoch City Police, who indicated that the investigation is still active and ongoing.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
