CEDAR CITY — Three teenage girls were injured when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon near the Three Peaks Recreation Area in Iron County.

The incident was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday near the entrance to Three Peaks, at approximately 5700 West and 4800 North (Midvalley Road).

Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Humphries said a Honda 250 motorcycle occupied by the three teens, the oldest of whom was 17, pulled out onto Midvalley Road, where the dirt bike was struck by a passenger car.

“They pulled right out in front of the car,” Humphries said. “The car that hit them really had nowhere to go.”

Two of the teens were transported by Life Flight helicopter to a hospital in Salt Lake City, Humphries said, adding that the third girl had only minor injuries.

“As of yesterday, one was released shortly after arriving and the other one was in critical but stable condition and expected to make a full recovery,” Humphries told Cedar City News on Monday. “So, it sounds like everybody will be okay.”

Humphries said none of the three girls was wearing a helmet, and one of them sustained a severe laceration to the back of her head.

“We need people to wear helmets,” Humphries said.

The motorcycle, which did not appear to be heavily damaged, was impounded after the crash.

Meanwhile, the driver of the passenger car was uninjured, Humphries added.

In addition to Iron County Sheriff’s deputies and Gold Cross Ambulance personnel, officers from Enoch City Police Department also responded to the incident and provided assistance.

This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
