ST. GEORGE — Gunshots broke the silence of the predawn hours on what is usually a quiet residential street on the west side of St. George early Friday.

Shortly before 5 a.m., someone fired several shots from a vehicle at a home on the 1300 block of 710 North just a few blocks south of Sunset Boulevard. While no one was hurt, witnesses said bullets entered a room where two people were sleeping.

St. George Police detectives scoured the neighborhood and are continuing an investigation, but at this point no suspects have been arrested.

“The call came in at 5 a.m.,” St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell said. “No one was injured and the motive is unclear.”

At least 11 police units arrived on the street about two minutes after 5 a.m..

By Friday afternoon, there was little evidence of that presence or any evident damage from gunfire. However, neighbors who spoke with St. George News were still visibly shaken.

“This is not, not St. George, right?” said one neighbor who asked not to be identified and added that there has never been a similar incident in the neighborhood. “The family that it happened to, I think they’re pretty upset.”

Another neighbor who also asked for anonymity said doorbell cameras captured the sound of gunshots and also captured the vehicle that was the origination point of the gunshots.

“The dark vehicle did a drive by, then a U-turn and shot seven shots on the second pass,” they said. “I spoke with the homeowner and they confirmed no one was injured, although the bullet entered a room where two individuals were sleeping.”

The witness said police have gathered all of the video after talking with residents.

No other information is being released at this point, as officer said detectives are still working the case.
