ST. GEORGE — After being involved with DOVE Center for over five years, Washington City Council member Kurt Ivie is joining the organization’s cause in a new way by serving on the Board of Directors.

According to a news release, Ivie began his board term July 1 and hopes to bring his extensive relationships, talents and abilities to inform the Southern Utah community as to what is needed to support DOVE the only area agency to provide safe-shelter, crisis intervention and prevention for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

For Ivie, DOVE “profoundly alters” the course of life for a survivor to one of empowerment, healing and knowing the abuse they experience wasn’t their fault.

Providing safe shelter, trauma services and recovery with an end goal of self-reliance for every soul in need of our services is my ambition,” Ivie said in the news release from DOVE.

In addition to now serving on the board, Board Chair Carole Grady said Ivie has also been active on DOVE’s Capacity Building Committee, which focuses on exploring options in expanding the organization’s transitional housing program. He was also instrumental in obtaining donations from Washington City for DOVE and contributed time and labor to a renovation project at Erin’s House.

“We are excited about Kurt joining the board and look forward to his continuing service to DOVE as a community leader,” Grady said.

DOVE also is bidding farewell to Tammie Richeson, who served six years on the board, as well as Aaron Edgley, who served three years on the board.

Richeson, a local real estate agent, was instrumental in fundraising behind the scenes and was crucial to obtaining several significant donations for the organization. For Edgley, his professional experience and expertise in commercial sales and marketing provided a solid background that enhanced his work with DOVE.

“We are confident Aaron and Tammie will continue their advocacy for and commitment to DOVE in other ways,” said Grady , adding that both members will be missed.
