St. George Police Sgt. Cameron McCullough said neither the Jeep’s male driver nor the female minivan driver and the children in the vehicle had any significant injuries, and no one was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

The Jeep Compass was traveling westbound on Red Cliffs Drive, turning left onto Mall Drive. The driver turned on a flashing yellow arrow at the same time the Toyota minivan progressed straight through the intersection, McCullough said. The minivan crashed into the side of the Jeep, flipping it into the middle of the busy roadway.

The driver of the Jeep was cited for failure to yield.

Around 3:30 p.m., six police officers congregated around the Jeep driver on the sidewalk beside the intersection and questioned him. The officers abruptly handcuffed the driver and placed him in the back seat of a police cruiser.

McCullough, who was on the scene, said the arrest was “for something unrelated to the accident.”

St. George Fire and Police departments and Glen’s Mobile Repair worked to clear the crash to allow for traffic flow. The intersection roadway was completely open to traffic at 3:29 p.m.

This report is based on statements by police personnel and may not contain all of the findings.
