At 12:53 p.m., firefighters and other responders were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on 1675 North, at approximately 300 West.

Cedar City Fire Chief Mike Phillips told Cedar City News the first firefighters arrived on scene approximately four minutes after the first page went out. Phillips said a total of 11 fire department personnel responded, including the crews of one fire engine and one ladder truck, plus two command vehicles.

The firefighters were able to put out the flames shortly after their arrival, after which they continued to direct water onto the smoldering debris to extinguish remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

Two storage sheds in adjacent backyards, which had been separated by a vinyl or plastic fence, were completely burned, along with their contents. In addition, the fire spread to a large tree in the neighboring backyard to the north. Some of the vinyl siding on two nearby homes was also melted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Phillips, adding that it appears to be accidental in nature.

Cedar City Police officers and Gold Cross Ambulance personnel also responded to the incident.

Bystander Kason Janes of Kanab, who was visiting his grandmother’s house nearby, shared with Cedar City News some photos and video clips he took with his phone.

This report is based on information provided by first responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
