WASHINGTON CITY — Two people in critical condition were transported to St. George Regional Hospital Wednesday afternoon after their minivan was hit by a commercial dump-trailer in Washington City.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Washington Parkway and Grapevine Crossing Road.
According to a press release from Washington City Police Department, officers arrived on the scene around 4 p.m. Witnesses said the minivan did not halt at the stop sign and continued into the intersection before being struck on the driver’s side by the truck, which was hauling two dump trailers.
The two people injured — an adult male and an adult female — were unresponsive outside their vehicle when officers arrived, the news release said.
Although the minivan was heavily damaged in the collision, the truck appeared unscathed and its driver reportedly did not require medical attention.
The news release also said the truck was traveling northbound on Washington Parkway, and the minivan was traveling westbound when the crash occurred.
Multiple officers shut down the roadway from both directions for approximately two hours while processing the scene, and alternate routing was recommended, the news release said.
The St. George Police Department, Washington City Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance all worked the scene.
Washington City Police Department is continuing to investigate the case.
This report is based on statements by police personnel and may not contain all of the findings.
