At approximately 7:23 a.m., Hurricane Valley Fire District personnel were dispatched to a structure fire at 1029 W. 1300 S. after a nearby worker noticed flames on one side of the carport with smoke alarms sounding, according to a press release issued by the Fire District.

The worker reportedly alerted the home’s occupants of the fire and assisted them in leaving the home. Workers in the area then used a temporary fire line from a nearby construction project in an attempt to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of fire crews.

The first arriving fire crew quickly extinguished the flames and completed an overhaul to prevent further fire extension. The fire was contained to the carport, the eaves and the exterior of the home, the news release states.

After being evaluated by medical crews, the residents denied the need for further medical treatment and Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing.

Damage was estimated at $125,000. No injuries were reported.

Along with Hurricane Valley Fire District, the Hurricane City Police Department, Hildale Fire Department and Hurricane City Power also responded to the scene.
