CEDAR CITY — Police arrested a suspected impaired driver in Cedar City on Sunday morning after the man allegedly drove through multiple red lights along Main Street and ended up stopping, fittingly, in the parking lot of the Iron County Jail.

Jeffrey Thomas Weber, 44, was subsequently booked into the jail on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving and failure to stop at the command of police.

According to a probable cause statement filed Tuesday in support of Weber’s arrest, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a Cedar City Police officer witnessed a white Dodge van run a red light as it went northbound through the intersection of 200 North and Main Street.

Although the officer activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, the van continued north on Main at high speeds and passed through multiple other stoplights, the statement said.

“I observed the suspect vehicle swerving into other lanes several times, as well as opening and shutting the driver side door multiple times during the pursuit,” the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit.

The driver eventually pulled into the Iron County Jail parking lot and stopped, the statement said. The pursuing officer then told the driver to exit the vehicle with his hands up.

According to the affidavit, the suspect showed signs of impairment due to his inability to follow the officer’s commands. He also reportedly had difficulty concentrating and responding to questions.

After being read his Miranda rights, Weber reportedly told officers he had used both methamphetamine and gabapentin within the past 24 hours.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Weber remains in custody at Iron County Jail where he awaits his initial court appearance.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and court documents and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
