At approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the Enoch Police Department was notified that two potential suspects in a Salt Lake City homicide possibly were located at an Enoch residence, Sgt. Dustin Roy said.

Police confirmed the suspects’ location and both were taken into custody without incident, said Roy, adding that while he wasn’t on scene, his understanding is that the individuals surrendered upon realizing law enforcement had arrived. Police did not use force, and no injuries or property damages were reported.

The suspects will be transported to Salt Lake City for questioning as part of an active and ongoing investigation conducted by the Salt Lake City Police Department, Roy said.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar City Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the call. The Iron Metro SWAT team was requested but did not arrive before the suspects were arrested.

According to a Salt Lake City Police Department press release, law enforcement is currently investigating the shooting. One man was killed and three others were injured. Two of the injured were shot and one was hit with the gun.

The identity of the man who was killed was revealed on the department’s Twitter page as 19-year-old Anthony Wheatley.

The incident is reportedly isolated and involved individuals who knew each other. It appeared a fight broke out, during which a firearm was discharged, the release reported. The motive, how many firearms were used, the relationships of those involved and their part in the shooting are all still under investigation.

Salt Lake City Police Communications Administrative Director Brent Weisberg said the department cannot release any specific information concerning the suspects’ alleged involvement in the homicide as neither has been charged with a crime.

“The Salt Lake City Police Department is grateful to the Enoch Police Department for their assistance on this case,” he said.

The Salt Lake City Police Department asks that those with relevant information concerning the incident should call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 22-106677, according to the press release.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
