ST. GEORGE — Forget the cookie, why not take a dog or cat as a side to your latte this weekend?

The Perks! location at 1515 W. Sunset Blvd., in St. George will be hosting a “Perks for Pets” event Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon when along with the “Chunky Monkey” drinks and the Denver omelette wraps, customers can pet a dog or cat from RSQ and, for a fee, take them home.

Perks! owner Lori Hanna told St. George News that as far as she is concerned, brews and domestic beasts can mix.

“As animal lovers ourselves, we always enjoy giving exposure to deserving pets looking for their forever homes,” Hanna said. “This accomplishes that.”

RSQ, formerly known as RSQ Dogs+, specializes in rescuing unwanted and stray animals and then adopting them out to homes using an all-volunteer team. Their fees for dogs to be adopted range from $75 to $200 and $35 to $85 for cats.

Those adopting a pet at Saturday’s event will get an extra perk: enough bucks to get a beverage. Anyone who adopts a pet will get a $10 Perks! gift card. Though Hanna said she expects the pets will bring out more love than the gift cards.

“We realize that in and of itself, it’s certainly not a reason to adopt, but animal people are our kind of people,” Hanna said. “We are just passing along a bit of a ‘Congrats on your new family member’ with the gift card.”
