About 15,000 people are expected to gather at Greater Zion Stadium on July 4 to celebrate America’s independence with a night of thrilling live entertainment. The celebration is Southern Utah’s hottest summer bash, and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

“This will be the most-attended single music event in Southern Utah history,” said Ben Lindquist, general manager of Canyon Media. “We’ve got a bona fide country music star, and we’ve got a commitment from our ownership, our sponsors, the university and the city to be putting on a world-class concert experience.”

The stage and light show will be approximately twice as big as last year, which is only fitting for a headline performance from country sensation Dustin Lynch.

“We wanted to up our game this year,” said Amy Chesley, co-host of the 99.9 KONY Country morning show. “When we had the opportunity to bring him here, we jumped at the chance. I’ve seen him in concert, so I know he’s going to put on one heck of a show!”

Lynch has “built one of the most consistent recording careers in modern country music” (Billboard magazine), achieving eight No. 1 songs, four top-five albums, nine gold and platinum singles and more than 3.3 billion global on-demand streams. He launched the Party Mode Tour this spring in support of his fifth studio album, “Blue in the Sky,” which is out now.

The highly anticipated follow-up to “Tullahoma” – which delivered the consecutive chart-toppers “Ridin’ Roads” and “Good Girl” in addition to the gold top-five hit “Momma’s House” – features the platinum-selling No. 1 hit “Thinking ‘Bout You” featuring MacKenzie Porter and the current neon-buzzed single “Party Mode.”

Since his platinum-selling breakout hit “Cowboys and Angels” was released in 2012, Lynch has headlined packed venues and toured with the country’s biggest names, including Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Brad Paisley.

The Tennessee native has earned industry recognition as a Grand Ole Opry member as well as high-profile nominations for the Billboard Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards and CMT Music Awards.

Along with Lynch’s concert, audiences will be treated to a stirring patriotic program from United We Pledge and many other surprises sure to make the night unforgettable. As darkness falls, the stadium will come alight with Southern Utah’s largest fireworks display, presented by the city of St. George.

The celebration is sponsored by 99.9 KONY Country, the city of St. George, Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital, Litehouse Foods, Balance of Nature, Cache Valley Bank, Ken Garff St. George Ford, Intergalactic, Morgan Pest Control and the Lifetime Store.

The event represents a significant financial investment for Canyon Media and its partners, all of whom are committed to keeping ticket prices low so everyone in the community has the opportunity to attend.

“You won’t find a concert ticket anywhere for $18, especially for an artist like Dustin Lynch,” Chesley said. “But we’re not in this to make money. We’re in it to bring a great show to Southern Utah and celebrate our freedom.”

The celebration has grown along with Southern Utah over the years and featured such artists as Sawyer Brown, Diamond Rio and 2021 headliner Russell Dickerson. Last year, an estimated 75,000 people tuned into the live broadcast of the fireworks show on 99.9 KONY Country, climbing atop the bluffs and ridges surrounding St. George to watch the dazzling display.

“We want to keep doing it bigger and bigger and bigger so that at some point we have a Tim McGraw or a Jason Aldean, a massive stadium name that you’d travel to Salt Lake or Vegas to see,” Lindquist said. “Those are the kind of artists that we anticipate we’ll be able to bring here in the next several years.”

Tickets cost $18, and seating is limited. Buy your tickets online or by calling the DSU box office at 435-652-7800. For more information and updates, text “KONY4TH” to 77000.

Before the concert and fireworks show, the city of St. George will host a full day of events including the Independence Carnival, the 4th of July Parade and the Uncle Sam 4K. Bring the whole family to Town Square Park, located in the heart of historic downtown St. George at 50 S. Main Street. From live music and food booths to slip-n-slides and a talent show, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“We’re so divided right now across the country,” Lindquist said. “I get excited when I think about an opportunity, even if it’s only for a few hours, for us to get together and celebrate how great America is. We’re big believers in that as a company, and I believe in it personally.”
