Don’t take a vacation from skin care this summer! Explore rejuvenation options at Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser

CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time for some fun in the sun. While you might be busy planning a vacation, remember that your skin’s aging process doesn’t take days off.

It’s never too early to think about sun damage, especially in a desert climate like Southern Utah. People of all ages visit Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser to rejuvenate their skin with the help of nonsurgical therapies. Owner Shannon Evans said there’s a common misconception that because it’s summertime, people can’t receive treatments to maintain the health of their skin.

“If we stop treatments during the summer, our skin continues to age, which makes it more difficult and costly to get back to pre-summer skin,” she added. “Treatments are more effective and last longer if we continue maintenance for our aging skin during the summer months.”

Skin tightening with Profound

Over time, skin loses vibrancy and elasticity as it begins to break down faster than it can naturally rejuvenate. Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser employs the gold standard of laser skin tightening: Profound, a revolutionary energy-based system that can turn back the hands of time. Profound awakens the body’s natural healing response by stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, the building blocks of healthy skin.

Profound targets the deeper skin layers for maximum benefit. It can boost elastin levels by up to 5 times and is the only FDA-approved device on the market with a 100% response rate for facial wrinkles.

“Profound provides one-third the results of a surgical facelift without surgery, minimal cost and less downtime,” Evans said. “For most patients, one treatment is all that’s needed and will last several years.”

Skin rejuvenation with eTwo

At Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser, treatments are often combined to produce optimal results. eTwo blends sublative rejuvenation with sublime skin contouring to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and acne scarring as well as firming and tightening for a more youthful look.

Sublime skin contouring uses a combination of light energy and radio frequency energy to deeply heat skin layers while simultaneously protecting the skin’s surface. During sublative rejuvenation, radio frequency energy is delivered via a grid of matrix spots on the skin’s surface as well as just under the surface. Both trigger the production of collagen to regenerate and remodel, yielding improved skin tone and texture.

With eTwo, the patient receives sublime and sublative treatments once a month for three months. Both treatments are performed on the same day. Evans said optimal results can be seen one to three months after the final treatment.

Microneedling

Often referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling creates thousands of microchannels within the top layer of the skin that trigger the body’s natural wound-healing response. This repair process stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to reduce the appearance of both fine and deep wrinkles. It also helps reverse sun damage and pigmentation and minimize visible scarring and pore size.

Microneedling is used for skin revitalization and can be performed in conjunction with other treatments, like Profound and eTwo, to enhance their results. Patients may choose to add platelet-rich plasma, which is abundant in growth factors crucial for cell renewal.

Since the platelets are taken directly from each patient, the body immediately accepts them as a beneficial healing agent when they’re topically applied. Microneedling opens tiny pathways for these growth factors to penetrate even deeper into the skin, where they begin creating new collagen and elastin fibers.

Facials

The hot, dry summer air can make skin appear dull and feel parched. After undergoing laser treatments, Evans advises patients to return for monthly facials to accelerate the renewal of skin cells, a process that naturally occurs about every 28 days.

Facials are both relaxing and highly beneficial to the skin. Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser offers a menu of signature facials curated to address various skin concerns ranging from acne and rosacea to aging and discoloration.

A medical spa facial provides deeper exfoliation than anything that can be achieved at home, Evans said. Exfoliation smooths the skin, unclogs pores, improves the skin’s ability to retain hydration and evens out the overall tone.

Desert Sands Aesthetics & Laser, a division of Desert Sands Medical Clinics, is the only medical spa in Southern Utah offering laser skin treatments along with comfort sedation by a board-certified anesthesiologist. During the 2021 Best of Southern Utah contest, voters recognized the clinics with gold and silver ribbons in various health and wellness categories.

Evans, who worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years before training in injectables and laser aesthetics, takes pride in being able to offer cutting-edge skin care services in a welcoming environment where patient comfort and confidence are top priority. Her team of skin care specialists aims to help everyone learn to love the skin they’re in.

“Desert Sands focuses on the mechanism and effect of each treatment so that we may pair treatments together to provide an outstanding result,” she said. “We’re continuing to grow and expand our menu of exceptional treatments.”
