The crash, which happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 200 South and 300 West, involved a white Honda CR-V and a silver Saturn Vue.

Following the T-bone collision, both vehicles came to rest at the northeast corner of the intersection, with the Honda up against the traffic light pole facing toward the center of the intersection and the Saturn upside-down a short distance to the north.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Kirk Lovell said at the scene that while the investigation is still preliminary, it appears one of the drivers may have run a red light.

“One apparently didn’t yield the right of way,” Lovell said. “I think it was a red light and they struck the other one.

“There’s no evidence that there’s any kind of alcohol or anything involved. I think it was just maybe not paying attention.”

The woman who was driving the Saturn was extricated from her vehicle and placed on an ambulance stretcher before being taken to the hospital for evaluation. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.

“As far as we know, there’s only one that’s injured and it’s just precautionary,” said Lovell, adding that the drivers were the only occupants of their respective vehicles.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda reportedly was uninjured, although she did appear to be somewhat shaken up.

Both cars sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers, personnel from Southern Utah Police Department, Cedar City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the incident.

Traffic on northbound 300 West, although very light, was diverted for more than a half-hour while the scene was cleared.
