Shortly before 10 a.m. officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Red Hills Parkway near a turnout just west of Skyline Drive involving a white pickup truck and a white Honda four-door passenger car.

Officers arrived to find the Honda near the median partially blocking northbound traffic, while the pickup truck was disabled. Additional officers were called in to assist with traffic control as the highway was reduced to a single lane.

St. George Police Officer Bryan Hendrix told St. George News that at the time of the crash, the driver of the Honda was heading north toward Snow Canyon Parkway in the lane closest to the median, while the pickup was stopped off the northbound shoulder in the turnout area.

As the driver of the pickup pulled out and began to cross both lanes of travel to make a left turn and head north up Red Hills Parkway, he initially did not see the Honda, Hendrix said.

As soon as the pickup driver saw the Honda, he attempted to speed up to avoid colliding with the passenger car, but the officer said the efforts fell short when the truck was struck in a “T-bone” style impact.

The Honda’s front end was completely destroyed in the crash, and both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Rendered inoperable, they were subsequently towed from the scene.

Hendrix said the pickup driver was cited for failing to yield on a left-hand turn, while the Honda driver was cited for driving without a license. Neither driver was injured in the crash.

Both northbound travel lanes were closed intermittently as two wreckers arrived to remove the vehicles from the roadway. Traffic was impacted for nearly an hour as responders tended to the scene and cleared debris from the roadway.
