Captain Justin Ray with the St. George Fire Department said the fire crew responded to a report of an initial collision on Sunset Boulevard and Dixie Drive at approximately 12:50 p.m. The crash involved a young woman driving a dark gray Honda Civic who veered off the road, up a sidewalk and hit a tree in front of the nearby McDonald’s restaurant. There were no passengers with her at the time of the crash, and the driver sustained no injuries.

Right after the collision, Ray said there was a head-on collision just around the corner on Sunset Blvd in front of Walgreens. Fire crews diverted to the head-on collision with reports of an unconscious patient.

Traffic was diverted while the doors of a Toyota Corolla were removed and a woman was extricated from her vehicle.

Emergency cones and police cars were placed around the wreckage to divert traffic on sunset as the fire truck and ambulance made it onto the second crash scene. The incident included a silver Toyota Corolla and a white 1992 Nissan “Z” car.

“When we arrived, we had two patients; one was up and walking around, in good shape, the other one we had to extricate out of another vehicle and once we were able to open up the doors and get her out, Gold Cross was able to transport her,” Ray said.

The woman driving the silver Toyota Corolla was transported to the hospital while the woman who’d been driving the Nissan stood on a grassy area next to her wrecked vehicle.

Detailed information about the cause of the crash has not been released as it is pending investigation.

Two tow trucks arrived to remove both vehicles involved in the head-on collision and clear the glass that covered the roadway. The car door that was removed to get the injured driver was also taken from the scene.

No updates have been released on the female driver who was transported to the hospital.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
