The single-day event attracted athletes from more than one dozen high schools in central and southern Utah, including all seven Region 10 schools.

Cedar’s boys team won its meet handily, with the Reds scoring 106 team points to runner-up Pine View’s 80.5.

The girls meet was much closer, with Cedar edging Desert Hills by a single point, 106-105.

In the final individual event, the 1600-meter run, Desert Hills picked up 13 points to pull ahead of the Lady Reds, 105-96. The Thunder’s Addison Pettingill won that race in a time of 5:31.7, while sophomore teammate Talia Skinner picked up another three points for placing sixth. Cedar didn’t have any athletes entered in the event.

However, in the last race of the day, the 4×400 relay, Cedar took first and scored 10 points. Desert Hills wasn’t entered in the event, so the Reds ended up winning the overall meet by one point. Cedar’s runners in the 4×400 relay were Kodi Oveson, Mckenlee Mogensen, Cierra High and Mayce Dalton; they finished the race in 4:15.69.

Cedar coach Greg Harris said several of his team’s athletes qualified for state during the meet, including Kiara Hansen in both discus and shot put, Ella Fielding in the javelin, Mayce Dalton in the high jump, Anna Hall in the 400-meter run and Trent Durbin in the boys shot put.

Next up for the athletes who’ve qualified will be the BYU Invitational at Brigham Young University in Provo on Friday-Saturday.

And in two weeks, the Utah High School Activities Association’s state track meet for all classifications, 1A through 6A, will be staged May 19-21, also at BYU.
