ST. GEORGE — Three Region 10 baseball teams swept their opponents and Dixie is firmly ahead in the standings entering the last week of regular season play.

The Flyers, Crimson Cliffs and Pine View all swept their home-and-home series this past week, establishing themselves as the top three teams in the region.

Each team has two games remaining and Dixie controls its own fate. A win either Wednesday or Friday against Cedar will guarantee the Flyers the Region 10 championship.

Following are recaps of the games on the diamond this past week.

Dixie 12, Desert Hills 4 | Dixie 4, Desert Hills 2

At Dixie Tuesday, the Flyers rocked Desert Hills starting pitcher Karson Irvin early and often. Dixie tagged Irvin with six runs and forced a pitching change with one out still left to get in the first inning.

The Flyers would plate two more runs in the second and three more in the third and the route was on.

Meanwhile, Dixie pitcher Malcolm Bartholomew picked up the win on the hill.

Dixie was led at the plate by three different hitters who each drove in two runs: Boston Vest, Logan Leavitt and Mason Kesterson.

Desert Hills was led by Payton Gubler’s two-run homerun. Kyler Terry also homered and Andrew Wilson had the Thunder’s other RBI.

Friday’s rematch at Desert Hills was much closer as Gubler pitched a solid game for the Thunder. He yielded four runs in the third inning but limited the Flyers after that before getting saddled with the tough loss.

Cayson Bell picked up the pitching win for Dixie.

Leavitt drove in two for the Flyers and Ridge Erickson also had an RBI in the win.

Crimson Cliffs 8, Hurricane 3 | Crimson Cliffs 14, Hurricane 0

The Mustangs used a six-run fifth inning to beat the Tigers in Washington.

Aaron Morris was the winning pitcher while Mason Shumaker took the loss for Hurricane.

Brexten Starley, Trey Evans and Jayger Baldwin each hit a double and drove in a single run to pace the Mustangs at the plate.

Then in the rematch Friday, Fox Challis dominated the Tigers from the hill, allowing only three hits and no runs in five innings. Hunter Lee took the loss for Hurricane.

Starley led Crimson Cliffs from the plate with his two doubles and three RBIs.

Five different Mustangs (Canyon Kutch, Evans, Jayz Estridge, Baldwin and Parker Andrus) had a solo RBI in the contest.

Casey Robinson doubled and drove in two Tigers in defeat. Shumaker and Jaxon Jones also hit doubles and Josh Wright collected an RBI for Hurricane.
