ST. GEORGE — A 56-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his bike on a sharp turn near mile marker 11 on state Route 20 in Iron County.
In a text sent to St. George News, Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant Cameron Roden said that at approximately 2:10 p.m. the driver of a black 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000 was in the right hand lane traveling east on SR 20.
Roden went on to say in the text that there is a sharp, downhill, left-hand corner at this location and the motorcyclist was unable to negotiate the curve.
According to Roden’s text, the motorcycle left the roadway to the right and tipped on its side, then slid into the guard rail.
Roden said that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. He became separated from his motorcycle and hit the guard rail, dying on scene from the injuries sustained.
