Shortly before 9:30 a.m. PDT, Mesquite Police Department’s animal control division responded to reports of a bobcat on the driving range at the Casablanca golf club, Sergeant Wyatt Oliver said.

He said Animal Control officers don’t typically respond to reports of wildlife but because the bobcat came into close contact with people, Officers Walter Dalton and Esteban Andrade made efforts to capture it.

Animal Control transferred the animal to the Nevada Division of Wildlife Services to assess its health needs, according to a post shared on the Mesquite Police Department’s Facebook page.

“We sure are thankful for wonderful and brave (animal control officers) that will take care of these hairy situations for us,” the department said in the post.

Oliver said no injuries to civilians or responders were reported.
He said citizens should be aware and respectful and not approach wildlife, adding that any wild animals spotted in residential areas should be reported to animal control.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
