Region 10 baseball: Snow Canyon, Dixie both sweep; Pine View, Crimson Cliffs split

ST. GEORGE — The baseball team at Crimson Cliffs High School suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when visiting Pine View held on to beat the Mustangs 4-3.

Elsewhere, Dixie maintained its unblemished top spot in the Region 10 standings after a 13-3 win at Hurricane.

And Snow Canyon scored three times in the seventh inning to come from behind and beat Cedar 6-4.

Following are recaps from last week’s Region 10 action on the baseball diamond.

Both teams won on the road in this home-and-home series.

Friday, Pine View scored all four of its runs in the top of the third inning. Luke Iverson and Brady Barney each had two hits for the Panthers in the contest.

Kyson Milne had two RBIs for Pine View while Dylan Becker and Barney drove in the other two runs for the winners.

Crimson Cliffs got two RBIs from Trey Evans and another from Brex Starley but could not tie the game in their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh.  

Brandon Roundy pitched the whole game for Pine View, with his winning line reading seven innings pitched, three runs (one unearned) allowed off six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Tuesday, Crimson Cliffs scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Ty Maynard led the way for the Mustangs with three RBIs in the win. Ty West had two RBIs and Petey Soto drove in a run for Crimson Cliffs. Beau Sampson was the winning pitcher.

Milne, Becker and Brady Roundy accounted for the RBIs in Pine View’s defeat.

Dixie 13, Hurricane 3 | Dixie 7, Hurricane 5

Dixie scored 20 runs in its two games against the Tigers to achieve the sweep.

Friday, the Flyers put up a five-spot in the first and third innings to cruise to the win. 

Seven different batters had at least one RBI for the winners, with Bronson Thorpe, Boston Vest and Grayson Erickson each driving in two runs apiece.

Cayson Bell pitched the first four innings for Dixie and picked up the victory while Erickson put in the final three innings of work from the mound.

Dixie’s senior trio of Shea Anderson, Kael Martinez and Jayden Davis each stole a base in the win.

On Tuesday, Dixie survived a late-inning rally to edge the Tigers at Dixie.

Malcom Bartholomew picked up the pitching win for Dixie while Mason Shumaker took the loss for the Tigers.

Leading the way at the plate for the Flyers were Derek Kesterson and Logan Leavitt, who each drove in two runs for the winners. Blake Watson, Grayson Erickson and Ridge Erickson all accounted for single RBIs.

Meanwhile, Shumaker drove in two Tigers to keep things close. Casey Robinson, Jaxon Jones and Zach Beard each had an RBI for Hurricane.

Snow Canyon 20, Cedar 7 | Snow Canyon 6, Cedar 4

Snow Canyon swept Cedar this week, with the Warriors first winning 20-7 at home on Tuesday, then coming from behind in the last inning to defeat the Reds 6-4 in Cedar City on Friday.

In Tuesday’s contest, the game was tied 3-3 after one inning, but the Warriors pulled away with an eight-run rally in the bottom of the second. They then added nine more runs over the next two innings.

Snow Canyon pounded 19 hits, including five home runs, during the contest, which ended after the top of the fifth inning due to the mercy rule. 

Luke Anderson had a monster game at the plate for Snow Canyon, going  4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs. He also belted a double and a triple, meaning he was just a single away from completing the cycle.

Starting pitcher Ethan Anderson earned the win on the mound for Snow Canyon, while Cedar’s Miles Topham took the loss.

Friday afternoon in Cedar, the game was scoreless after three innings, but Snow Canyon put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth and later added one run in the fifth. Cedar answered with one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Snow Canyon’s Drake Kelly belted a two-run single to put the Warriors ahead 6-4, which ended up being the final score, as Cedar was only able to get one runner on in the bottom of the seventh, on a walk. Kelly finished with three hits and three RBIs.

Relief pitcher Talan Kelly, who came in for starter Jake Johnson in the fifth inning, picked up the win for Snow Canyon, while Kas’n Crandall took the loss for Cedar.
