ST. GEORGE — Nu-Blu, among the top acoustic acts in the music industry, is set to kick off the city of St. George’s 2022 slate of free Concert in the Park events Monday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Vernon Worthen Park.

Concert in the Park takes place the second Monday of each month and runs April-September.

“I hear from people all the time who are looking for inexpensive ways to spend their leisure time,” said Emily Reed, Community Arts and Exhibits Manager for the city of St. George, in a news release. “I always tell them to give our free Concert in the Park a try. We always find new artists that will touch your soul.”

The 2022 season includes a wide variety of artists and entertainment styles, including:

  • April 11: Nu-Blu (Bluegrass)
  • May 9: Mikalene (Country)
  • June 13: HaleAmanO (Island Reggae)
  • July 11: St. George Jazz
  • Aug. 8: The Billy & Elton Show (Featuring Luke Randall and John Houston)
  • Sept. 12: Disco-A-Go-Go

Hailing from Siler City, North Carolina, a small southern town, Nu-Blu’s heart and soul is husband-and-wife duo Daniel and Carolyn Routh. Carolyn Routh’s caramel-coated soprano is one of the band’s defining traits. It is at times a tender lullaby, at times a freight train, but always unwinding a surprising tale. Daniel is the group’s backbone, a multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist who also handles band management.

They deliver upbeat, blazing-fingers pick work just as well as gentle, heartwarming ballads. The award-winning band has made appearances on Fox News and CBS Sunday Morning.

According to the news release, Concert in the Park is free to the public and sponsored by the city of St. George with funding from the city of St. George RAP Tax, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums and the National Endowment for the Arts. Park seating is available. Those who attend are minded to take blankets, lawn chairs and food.
