Jan. 9, 1931-March 31, 2022

Leola Smith Rowley, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022. Leola was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Salt Lake City to Brigham Harbach Smith and Arva Lucile Smith. She married the love of her life Kent Mayburn Rowley on Sept. 29, 1949, in Salt Lake City. 

A homemaker for most of her life, Leola enjoyed a simple life. She loved to do crossword puzzles, crochet and catch the latest “Jeopardy!” episode. She also loved to create oil paintings. She even taught herself how to play the piano in her later years. When she and Kent lived in Moab, they spent a lot of time exploring the backcountry with family and friends, a tradition that continued long after they moved. Her first priority was her family, though. Nothing was more important to her than taking care of the people in her life. She always made sure that you were fed, whether you were hungry or not, and she loved to tell stories, a trait that runs in the family. Life was better if Leola was in your life. She will be sorely missed.

Leola is survived by her son, Brent, with his wife Pam, two grandsons, Brandan, with his wife, Misty, and Joshua, with his wife, Erin and three great-grandchildren Jeremy, Faith and Torin. She is survived by one sister, Noell Clifford, whom she enjoyed getting the chance to spend a great deal of time with over the last two years. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kent Mayburn Rowley, and three brothers, Barton Smith, Burt Smith and Kent Smith. 

A short viewing will be held on Thursday April 7, 2022, from 11 a.m.-noon at Pine View Mortuary, 566 North Mall Drive, St George. Graveside services will be Thursday April 7, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Hurricane Cemetery, 255 East 600 North, Hurricane.
