MESQUITE, Nev. — Multiple agencies responded to a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 through Mesquite early Friday evening.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. Nevada time on northbound I-15 in the area of mile 112, after the Riverside Road exit.

Members of the Nevada State Police, as well as local fire and ambulance crews, arrived at the scene soon after, as did units from the Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire District, which was requested for mutual aid.

Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire Chief Jeff Hunt said six vehicles were involved in the crash, which apparently was caused by the driver of a BMW SUV who had slowed down for an unknown reason. This caused a pickup truck following behind the SUV to collide with it and trigger a “chain reaction” that involved four other vehicles.

“There were bits and pieces of vehicles as far as the eye could see,” Hunt said.

Some of the individuals involved in the crash were examined and treated at the scene, Hunt said, yet refused medical transport by ambulance. Hunt was unable to confirm whether someone else was taken to a hospital and if so, their condition.

“For what that crash could have been, it didn’t seem too bad,” he said.

While damage to the vehicles involved appeared “extensive,” Hunt said, the people he and others tended to came across as alert and largely unharmed.

As for the impact of the crash itself, as of 7:25 p.m. Neveda time, NDOT reports a the right lane of northbound I-15 through Mesquite at mile 112 remains blocked.
