Sunny Side with Cindy: Golfing for a good cause with the Brad Stapley Memorial Foundation

SOUTHERN UTAH — Sunny 101.5 morning show host Cindy Olson uses her new show “Sunny Side with Cindy” to celebrate the people making our community a better place to live. In this episode, presented by The Shoppes at Zion, she met two loving brothers from a local family that has turned an unthinkable tragedy into an opportunity to serve.

Brad Stapley, a second-generation pharmacist beloved by many in the community for his friendly service and giving spirit, was killed by an avalanche during a snowmobiling trip with friends in February 2019. The Stapley family decided to celebrate his life and legacy by helping the community through the Brad Stapley Memorial Foundation.

His brothers, Aaron Stapley and Devan Stapley, remember him as “a friend to everyone.”

“He was somebody that gave other people light and hope, really a true friend,” Devan Stapley said. “Anything that he could do to serve others, he really seemed to be involved with.”

Brad Stapley also loved golf, and the Stapley family organized a friendly golf tournament every year. That tournament has evolved into a fundraising effort since his passing, with all proceeds donated to local organizations. The beneficiaries of the inaugural event were the search and rescue and backcountry rescue teams that ultimately recovered his body from the Tushar Mountains wilderness.

The fourth annual tournament will be held Sept. 24 at the Sunbrook Golf Club, and the Stapley family is looking for volunteers as well as players to help make it a success. Devan Stapley said the tournament is more casual than competitive. Even if you’re not a pro on the links, come out and have some fun while supporting a great cause.
