Utah County schools Orem and Timpanogos were the top point-earning teams, with Orem winning the boys’ meet with 117 points to runner-up Snow Canyon’s 75. On the girls’ side, Timpanogos won with 59 points, followed by Lone Peak with 54.

The 1,600-meter run on Friday attracted the most participants of any single event, with more than 300 athletes competing, including about 180 boys and 140 girls. It took nearly 2.5 hours to finish all the heats for that event alone.

Following are short recaps of selected top performances by Southern Utah athletes during the meet.

Senior speedster Marcus McKenzie of Pine View won the boys 100-meter dash in a personal-best time of 10.54 seconds, which is not only a new 4A state record but also the fifth-fastest time ever recorded in Utah high school athletic competition, according to the Utah High School Activities Association records book.

McKenzie also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.28 seconds, still among the top 10 best state times but still shy of his own personal best of 21.10, as well as his twin brother Dominique’s state record of 20.96 seconds, set last May.

The Snow Canyon boys won the 4×200 relay in 1:31.91, while Pine View came in second at 1:33.40. The Snow Canyon boys also placed second in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
