ST. GEORGE — An 83-year-old woman was transported to the hospital on Friday morning after being hit by a car.
The woman, who was pinned under the car at one point, was transported to St. George Regional Hospital with head and leg injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The incident occurred at the corner of Dixie Downs Road and 1740 North, next to Firehouse Park, just after 8:15 a.m. and was cleared 30 minutes later. Officers said a woman driving a silver Mazda6 with three passengers hit the woman as she was crossing the street.
“That’s preliminarily what it looks like,” St. George Police Officer David Blackman said. “It did not appear to be a high-impact hit.”
The woman’s red Drive Medical Nitro walker and a blue Sketchers sneaker sat nearby as she was tended to by eight first responders from St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.
The woman was conscious and moving her arm, but moaning in pain as rescue workers reassured her. Also nearby, the driver, looking distraught, was questioned by police.
Police initially cited the driver for failing to yield to a pedestrian, Blackman said. The woman who was hit was transported with injuries to the back of her head and a fracture to her left upper leg.
As the ambulance left, responders continued to clean up the scene.
