Police seek info after 2-car collision in St. George leaves 2 occupants with ‘concerning injuries’

ST. GEORGE — Two people were transported to the hospital after a two-car collision on 100 South Main Street on Tuesday morning.

The collision was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. and involved a silver Chevy Traverse and a black Hyundai sedan, St. George Police Sgt. Tyrell Bangerter told St. George News.

Bangerter said an older adult driving the Chevy with one older adult occupant was eastbound on 100 South while a woman driving the Hyundai was southbound on Main Street when the collision occurred. The cause of the collision is under investigation but police said they believe one of the drivers ran a red light.

“The black vehicle then was redirected from southbound Main onto eastbound 100 South and came to a stop up here,” Bangerter said. “The silver SUV was disabled on the southeast corner.”

None of the drivers or passengers appeared to be wearing a seat belt, Bangerter told St. George News later in a phone call.

Both the driver and passenger in the Chevy were transported to St. George Regional Hospital in a Gold Cross Ambulance. Both were conscious and alert but still under evaluation at the hospital, Bangerter said.

The driver of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries on site, Bangerter said at the scene.

No citations have been issued as the investigation is still pending, Bangerter said. Because the occupants of the Chevy sustained “concerning injuries,” the accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

Bangerter said they are asking the public to come forward with any information they have concerning the collision. He said cell phone or dashcam videos are particularly helpful.

“Because those things can definitely make a difference in helping us determine what happened,” he said.

Witnesses can call St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.

The St. George Fire Department also responded to the scene.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
