As the city of St. George continues to experience rapid growth, a dedicated group of community members, elected officials, business owners and thousands of residents have engaged in meaningful discussions about the city’s future, according to a press release issued by the city.

The objective is an update to the general plan – St. George 2040 – which will ensure the vision and goals for the city of St. George continue to drive effective policies and decision-making.

This effort began in 2021 and will continue into the summer of 2022. Residents and business owners are asked to review current draft and goal statements along with the strategies that will be used to achieve these goals at this link. Feedback can be provided by using the survey link at the bottom of each page.

“St. George 2040 is a blueprint for our city,” St. George Mayor Michele Randall said in the news release. “It sets the vision for the future of St. George, includes goals that we would like to accomplish in the 20-year future and identifies strategies to guide implementation.

“We urge our residents to please take a moment to review the website and answer a few questions at the end of each webpage. We want to ensure this is a genuinely collective vision — with goals we can all get behind.”

John Willis, community development director for the city of St. George, said in the news release that public input is vital to ensure that the plans reflect the needs of the community, the residents have a voice and the plans are implementable and achievable.

“The feedback we receive on this draft will help us reach a finished product that will hopefully be adopted this summer,” he said.

In addition to the in-progress St. George 2040, a new downtown area plan is in its beginning stages and will also seek public input.

“We were thrilled by the outpouring of responses we received through an online survey in 2021 and look forward to the same type of enthusiasm from our thoughtful citizens,” Randall said.
