Just before 4 p.m., a two-vehicle collision involving a Chevrolet SUV and Hyundai Accent occurred at the Dixie Drive and Valley View Drive intersection. This resulted in backed up and slow-moving traffic through the intersection for around the next 45 minutes until the scene was cleared by responders.

According to police at the scene and through witness and driver interviews, the driver of the Chevrolet SUV originally was southbound on Dixie Drive, St. George Police officer Tiffany Mitchell said.

As the SUV neared the Valley View Drive intersection, it hit the median a couple of times before going over it and into oncoming traffic.

Though the sequence of events after this point is unclear, Mitchell said, the SUV hit the northbound Hyundai Accent, ran other a street sign on the northeast corner of the intersection and rolled at least once before coming to a stop on the curb on the southwestern corner of the intersection.

The Hyundai Accent came to a stop along the roadside just north of the intersection and the driver was taken to the hospital with minimal injuries, Mitchell said.

The Chevrolet SUV driver was taken into custody at the scene and arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, Mitchel said.

St. George Police officers directed traffic through the intersection as the crash was investigated and eventually cleared.

People arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
