CEDAR CITY — Firefighters from multiple departments battled a residential fire in a remote part of western Iron County on Tuesday afternoon.

Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. David Mitchell said that shortly after 3:30 p.m., a call was made to emergency dispatchers reporting a fire in a single-story home in Newcastle.

The homeowner reported the fire started in the attic, Mitchell told Cedar City News.

Newcastle, Beryl, Enterprise and Cedar City Firefighters responded and worked to bring the blaze under control.

Although his department wasn’t in charge of the incident, Enterprise Fire Chief Brenden Moody said the fire was contained to the attic above the home’s master bedroom and adjacent bathroom.

“There was quite a bit of smoke damage, as well as structural damage to the roof,” Moody said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be related to an electrical issue, he added.

No injuries were reported, but the occupants of the home have been temporarily displaced, authorities said.
