IRON COUNTY — A 44-year-old man was found dead at the scene of an apparent single-vehicle rollover crash in the Beryl area of western Iron County on Saturday morning.

Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. David Mitchell told Cedar City News that a passerby reported the crash to dispatchers at 11:05 a.m.

Mitchell said the man who reported the incident saw what he thought was a trailer in the brush and went to investigate and saw the wrecked vehicle along with the deceased driver and called 911.

Although the reporting party lives nearby, Mitchell said he said did not hear anything, adding that it’s still uncertain what time the crash happened.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle, which was a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, lost control on the dirt road and rolled, Mitchell said, adding that excessive speed and/or driver distraction are being considered as possible factors.

The car’s radio was still on and turned up loudly when the vehicle was found, Mitchell added.

The deceased driver was identified as Agustin Vazquez, a resident of Beryl. His family has been notified, Mitchell said.

Vazquez’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
