ST. GEORGE — A 20-year-old man is in jail in Washington County on a $50,000 warrant for alleged rape after the fugitive was stopped in St. George for a headlight violation.

On Sunday, Kody Brent King, of Fish Haven, Idaho, was arrested during the traffic stop shortly before 10 p.m. after a routine background check revealed the suspect had an active arrest warrant issued out of Soda Springs, Idaho, on a felony rape charge.

The bail amount was set at $50,000, according to the warrant issued out of 6th District Court that was signed by Magistrate David Kress on Nov. 4, 2021, in Caribou County, which sits approximately 115 miles southeast of Idaho Falls. The warrant is extraditable out of all chain states, meaning any state that borders Idaho, including Utah.

The case was filed in November by Caribou County Prosecuting Attorney S. Douglas Wood, according to information obtained from 6th District Court.

When St. George News requested additional  details involving the incident that led to the felony charge, the court clerk said the case involved a victim who is a minor, so the case is sealed and no further information could be provided.

Idaho does not classify felonies by first-degree, second-degree and so on. Instead, the severity of the charge is defined by the crime type itself, which also provides a sentencing range in most cases.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
