CEDAR CITY — The sixth annual Charity Dodgeball Throwdown, billed as Utah’s largest dodgeball tournament, is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Canyon View High School in Cedar City.
More than 20 teams are expected to compete, according to organizers. The event is a charity fundraiser, with all proceeds going to support Iron County Care and Share, a nonprofit organization that provides food and other support for local families in need.
A recent press release announcing the event invites participants and audience members to “prepare for this epic battle of speed, coordination, loud jerseys, bold team names, and big tunes.”
“In an effort to expand our fundraising audience and embrace the next generation of philanthropists in southern Utah, we created this event to #smashhungerintheface and make it possible for us to serve over 1,500 unique families each year with nutritious food and wrap-around support with the dignity and love everyone deserves,” the announcement adds.
Among the teams scheduled to compete is the Dodge Bulls, led by Olympic cycling hopeful and athletic influencer Michael Wilson.
Additionally, attendees will have the chance to watch the mascots from Southern Utah University (Thor Thunderbird), Dixie State University (Bison) and the University of Utah (Swoop) compete against one another for bragging rights.
There will also be a silent auction fundraiser featuring more than $2,000 worth of donated merchandise from local businesses. Click here to see the auction’s page.
Apollo’s Army, a popular local band, will provide live music during intermission.
