The region meet was staged Friday and Saturday at Washington City Community Center.

The Snow Canyon girls accumulated a total of 411 points during the meet, while runner-up Cedar finished with 377.

The boys’ meet was even closer, with Crimson Cliffs ending up with 404 points to Cedar’s 397.5. See complete team results at bottom of the story.

Snow Canyon coach Charlie Barnett said he was thrilled to see the Warrior girls win the region title.

“I honestly could not wish for a better group of young women to represent this sport and their school,” Barnett said. “It was amazing to see their determination. From the start of the meet, the energy levels were extremely high, and everyone was laser focused. That can be attributed to an outstanding group of senior girls who have been able to stay focused and hungry for their four years on the team.”

Meanwhile, Crimson Cliffs coach Craig Nelson praised his team’s “heart and fire” as the Mustang boys captured the school’s first region swim title.

“I’m proud of every one of our swimmers,” he said. “Cedar pushed us to our best. We did some incredibly awesome things.”

Kylie Barber of Snow Canyon won the 50 free in a time of 25.13 seconds. Hannah Edwards of Cedar finished second, clocking in at 25.71. Sorina Rom of Pine View placed third in 25.94. A total of 71 girls competed in the event.

Barber also won the 100 free, posting a time of 53.98 seconds. Cedar’s Olivia Price finished second and Snow Canyon’s Sarah Condie took third.

Snow Canyon’s Afton Page won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.26. Cedar’s Sydney Selinger finished second and Emma Brown of Desert Hills placed third.

Page also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.10. Kensley Messinger of Crimson Cliffs placed second in the 100 back, while Cedar’s Aspen Simper took third.

The girls 500 free was exceptionally close, with Madison Henry of Crimson Cliffs leading Cedar’s Aspen Simper for much of the race. However, Simper was able to catch and pass Henry just before the finish line, edging her by just two-hundredths of a second, 5:38.85 to 5:38.87. Less than three seconds behind them was Snow Canyon’s Olivia Jenkins, who placed third in 5:41.65.

In the last individual event of the meet, Pine View’s Sorina Rom won the 100 breast in a time of 1:08.97. Hailee Phillips of Snow Canyon placed second, and Lucy Andelin of Desert Hills took third.

The Snow Canyon girls also swept all three relay events, with Cedar taking second in two of the races and third in another.

Boys

Crimson Cliffs sophomore Josh Walker, coming off an illness the previous week, finished first in both of his individual events. Walker started off the meet with a victory in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:48.09. On Saturday, he won the 100 back in a time of 54.02.

Sophomore sprinter Bronson Plumb also won both of his individual events for Crimson Cliffs, taking first in the 100 free with a time of 51.10 seconds and in the 50 free with a time of 23.35.

Crimson Cliffs coach Nelson said it was remarkable that Plumb played football for the Mustangs last fall and didn’t start practicing with the swim team until October, unlike most of the other athletes who swim with club teams year-round.

“He loves football but is a super fast swimmer,” Nelson said of Plumb, who is the younger brother of current BYU swimmer and former Desert Hills standout Payton Plumb.

Taking second in the 200 free was Cedar’s Tobler Dotson, who later won the 100 fly in 53.60. Andrew Carlisle of Dixie placed second in the butterfly event, while Daxton Green of Snow Canyon took third.

Later, Carlisle and Green also finished second and third, respectively, behind Walker in the 100 back.

Dixie’s David Leon-Moreno won the 500 free in a time of 5:03.66. Chandler Wambach of Snow Canyon took second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free.

Additionally, Fox Challis of Crimson Cliffs took second behind Plumb in the 50 free, while Hurricane’s Kevin Bunn placed third.

Troy Eggers of Desert Hills was the winner of the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:03.69. Cedar’s Ashten Krans took second and Hunter Iverson of Desert Hills placed third. Krans also later took third in the 500 free.

Eggers, meanwhile, also won the 100 breast in a time of 1:03.39. Hunter Iverson of Desert Hills took second in that race, while Dagan Murray of Cedar placed third.

Cedar had the strongest overall relay finishes, with the Reds taking first in the 400 free relay and placing second in the other two relay races. Desert Hills won the 200 medley relay, while Crimson Cliffs won the 200 free relay.
