“We are so grateful to Ivory Homes, who made this planting possible through a grant we obtained from Tree Utah,” Randee Sanders, administrative assistant to the Washington County Habitat Conservation Plan, said. “We are also very appreciative to the community members who volunteered their time to this great cause.”

The third annual event was held Thursday at the Confluence Park trailhead located within Hurricane and La Verkin area in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.

Most of the tools and materials were provided by Washington County. Some volunteers brought extra shovels and gloves. Partners for the event included Ivory Homes, The Clark & Christine Ivory Foundation,  Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and Great Old Broads For Wilderness.

The Confluence Park is inside of the Red Cliffs Reserve. The area was established in 1996 to protect habitats capable of sustaining wildlife threatened by rapid development in Washington County. The reserve also protects the scenic red rocks in the area. It spreads across the north-central part of Washington County. The Reserve is 20 miles wide and 6 miles deep. It is trisected by Highway 18 in the west and I-15 in the east.
