Concern for community is one of the seven cooperative principles, and as a member-owned cooperative, Dixie Power loves to give back to the communities that they serve.

“The American Red Cross approached us three years ago with the request to become Southern Utah’s largest blood drive,” said Steven Young, communications specialist for Dixie Power. “We accepted that challenge, and we are happy to report that we’ve been able to successfully grow the drive each year.”

In 2019, Dixie Power held their inaugural blood drive and collected 65 units. This was a record for a first-time drive in the area, but it wasn’t enough to beat the record for Southern Utah’s largest blood drive (114 units). However, in 2020, the title of Southern Utah’s largest blood drive was given to Dixie Power with their collection of 129 units.

On Wednesday and Thursday, over 200 community members poured into the Dixie State University Gardner Student Center for their opportunity to donate blood. DSU offered to graciously host the event, as Dixie Power had outgrown its own venue. Each donor received a $5 FiiZ Drinks gift card and a $35 Dixie Direct Savings Guide.

“Because we are asking community members to help us donate blood, we feel like we should give them something in return,” Young said. “We love partnering with local businesses to make this happen.”

Not only did the donors each receive these incentives, they also received the knowledge that their donation has the potential to save up to three lives.

Dixie Power is grateful for the American Red Cross and the lifesaving work they do. The company commends their community partners including Dixie Direct, FiiZ Drinks and DSU that helped make this event possible.
