ST. GEORGE — A rollover in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve sent a driver to the hospital Thursday night.
At around 9 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and other responders were sent up Cottonwood Springs Road, also known as Turkey Farm Road, to an area near the Black Gulch Trailhead involving a single vehicle, Washington County Sheriff’s deputy Graham Hancock said.
The driver told responding deputies that he was passing another vehicle on the dirt road when dust kicked up by the other vehicle obscured his view, Hancock said. This resulted in the driver going off the road and rolling his vehicle at least once.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center by a private party for further evaluation.
Cottonwood Springs Road is paved at its southern end in St. George where it connects with Red Hills Parkway. However, as the road progresses into the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, it becomes a bumpy dirt road that can produce a fair amount of dust behind vehicles. The roadway narrows in parts.
